Kathy ’83 grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and the Jersey shore. During her senior year at Boston College, where she earned her B.A. in English, she met her husband Mike. After marrying, they moved to Atlanta where Kathy worked as a reporter at the Atlanta Journal/Constitution. Their family relocated to London for several years and when they returned, Kathy continued as a freelance writer for the advertising/special sections department. Today, Kathy’s focus is on their four adult children and their spouses, and eight grandchildren. She was a founding board member of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Atlanta and continues to serve on the national Cristo Rey Network board. Her commitment to Catholic education also includes volunteer roles at the Marist School and service on the board of the Catholic Foundation of North Georgia.

Mike ’83 served as chief executive officer of Secureworks Inc., a global leader in cybersecurity, from 2002 until his retirement in 2021. He also served as chair of the board, helping Secureworks grow from a small private company to a publicly traded enterprise. Prior to joining Secureworks, Mike served as chief financial officer of Talus Solutions, MSI Solutions, and Medaphis Corporation, and began his career with KPMG LLP. He holds a B.S. in computer science and accounting from Boston College and is a certified public accountant. Today, Mike serves as a director of Abacus Group, ImagineX, Courser, and TekStream. He is actively involved in civic organizations, including serving on the board of trustees for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Marist School. Mike and Kathy Cote have been married for 42 years and have four grown children and eight grandchildren. 

Jane’s career encompassed education for nearly four decades in the public school sector. An English teacher, she was also involved in teacher professional development by serving as a local building representative, a contract negotiator, a local association president, and a delegate to the National Education Association (NEA) and Indiana State Teachers Association (ISTA) conventions. Jane has pursued many interests throughout her life: her hobbies include bicycling, attending theater, studying art, and practicing calligraphy. Her love of travel inspired her and her husband to host five exchange students from around the world. Jane’s journey in the Catholic faith and interest in social justice have led her to pursue Boston College Companions.

Cindy ’89 recently transitioned from her full-time role as a partner/principal at Ernst & Young LLP where she held various leadership roles in risk management, technology risk, and cyber risk management. Cindy has given talks and published articles about technology risk, cyber risk, enterprise resiliency, and women in leadership. She serves on not-for-profit boards for the Committee of 200 (C200) and the National Braille Press. She is engaged in supporting women in technology as well as research in triple negative breast cancer. Cindy lives on Cape Cod and has been married for 28 years to her best friend. She has three amazing adult children who inspire her daily. An avid traveler who reads voraciously, Cindy also loves to golf, is a 27-year New England Patriots season ticket holder, and has been writing a fiction book. 

Karen has spent over two decades teaching undergraduate geology courses, the majority in the Virginia Community College System. She earned her B.S. in geoscience from Pennsylvania State University, M.S. in geology from the University of Cincinnati, and Ph.D. in geology from the University of Georgia. For the last decade, Karen has focused on inclusive and equitable geoscience education. She serves the national community of two-year geoscience educators through leadership positions within academic professional societies, facilitates workshops on teaching and grant writing, and continues to enhance an open education resource (online) historical geology textbook co-authored with peers. Karen is a National Park enthusiast, and when not out on the trails with her young adult sons, loves to read historical fiction with a cat or two on her lap.

Michael ’87 has spent over 38 years in U.S. logistics and supply chain advantaged industrial real estate development, investment, and management. He spent the last 22 years as chief development officer for Centerpoint Properties, transforming land into over 50 million square feet of state-of-the-art intermodal campuses and business parks. After earning his B.A. in economics from Boston College, Michael earned an M.B.A. from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Business (1996). He and his wife Kay (ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ ’87) have two children: Brian (ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ ’17) and Christopher (ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ ’20). The Murphys have spent most of their lives in the northern suburbs of Chicago and enjoy traveling, charity work, and spending time with their friends and family. 

Dave has spent his career leading finance teams in global software organizations and, more recently, co-founding two community-focused small businesses. A lifelong runner, mentor, and youth sports coach, he finds joy in helping others reach their potential. Dave lives in Winchester, Mass., with his wife Jennifer (ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ M.Ed. ’95); together they are proud parents of four adult children and three grandchildren. Dave, who graduated from ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ High, Trinity College (B.A.) and Babson College (M.B.A.), is part of a four-generation Boston College family. He looks forward to ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ Companions as a time to reflect, learn, and discern where he can best serve next.

A retired executive level professional who has spent over 35 years working in the field of community mental health, Phil has served as a CEO in three organizations in three states. He received an M.A. from Assumption College (1984) and has taught at New Hampshire’s Granite State College, teaching courses in health care finance, ethics, and quality improvement. A creative person who is happy to listen and learn from others, he enjoys perpetual learning, finding that encountering new perspectives and information satisfies his curiosity and broadens his effectiveness. While Phil can point to many professional accomplishments (especially saving a $12M mental health center from insolvency), being a good father tops them all. Phil’s two children are happy, successful, and healthy people who contribute to others and the world.
